ALESYA SHAPSIG

 

 

My name is Alesya Shapsig, and I am a Circassian artist. I was born in 1967, in  Nalchik, North Caucasus, now living in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. 

I traveled a lot, used to live and work in USA, Canada, Russia, Europe. New places,  landscapes, architecture, colours and rhythms...

All those impressions give me ideas for my new works.
I had my first degree in a  Fashion Field, then I continued   as a Theatre Costume Designer, Textile Painter and an Interior Decorator. 
And I always love to create and to craft abstract and figurative paintings: on silk, linen canvas, paper, furniture, walls ,etc. 
Working for last 12 years in an Interior Decorating field, also added to my art a new twist: I started play more with  new color combinations and textures.
My inspiration comes from Circassian culture, North sea's colours, Rotterdam modern architecture, old French movies, Dutch fashion, old black and white photography, art, books, Antwerp café interiors and people.

New textures, unique colours and lines combinations, that's what I  developing in my new art works. New symbols, traditional ethnic  ornaments, revised by the time and with a new approach are my constant search.
